Biography
Dr. Cláudio S. Lopes is Senior Researcher, head of Design and Simulation of Composite Structures, a subgroup of the Composite Materials Group from IMDEA Materials. He is also the appointed leader of the Integrated Materials Engineering (ICME) programme at IMDEA Materials.Dr. C.S. Lopes has an international research career on Aerospace Engineering specialized in Structures, Materials and Computational Mechanics (PhD by Delft University of Technology in collaboration with University of Porto, 2009). He is the co-author of more than 40 scientific journal papers and book chapters on: multiscale computational simulation of damage and failure of composite materials and structures; impact and damage tolerance analysis of composite structures; design and optimization of advanced composites with non-conventional architectures such as fibre-steered composite panels manufactured by means of Advanced Fibre Placement (www.researchgate.net/profile/Cs_Lopes). He has participated in 30 national and international research projects and industrial contracts of R&D and technology-transfer nature in three different European countries (The Netherlands, Portugal and Spain), many of them as Principal Investigator. Over the recent years, he has been the project coordinator of two EU (CLEANSKY JU) projects and three industrial R&D contracts (Airbus, Airbus Defence and Space, GKN Fokker) focused on the development of multiscale models of composites by means of testing and computational mechanical analysis at different length scales.
