MULTISCALE DESIGN OF ADVANCED MATERIALS (DIMMAT)

The global objective of this proposal is to leverage the complementary capabilities of several research groups of Madrid in order to develop a design methodology for advanced materials by integrating multiscale materials modeling tools and combinatorial processing methods. We intend to develop an innovation process that is more efficient and, therefore, more economically advantageous than traditional tiral and error strategies for the discovery of new materials. The described methodology will be applied within the timeframe of the present call (2014-2018), more specifically, to design novel steels and Cobalt alloys for operation under extreme temperatures, high strength b-Titanium alloys with tailored thermal and magnetic properties, thin films and coatings for applications as protective layers in aggressive environments and as solid lubricants, and multiscale modeling tools capable of predicting the mechanical behavior of advanced polymer-based composites from their constituent properties and architecture.
