Research engineer for X-ray Computed Tomography (XCT) analysis focused on data post-processing of metal additive manufacturing samples
The Computational Solid Mechanics Group at IMDEA Materials Institute is seeking to fill a position of Research Assistant to work on Hybrid physics-based and data-driven models for computational solid and materials mechanics. The researcher will work on the development of finite element models for complex thermomechanical processes and their surrogate approximation using machine learning methods.
A Research Assistant position to work with the Multiscale Materials Modeling and the Physical Simulation Groups at IMDEA Materials Institute is seek. The researcher will work on developing constitutive models for the mechanical response of different steels fabricated by additive manufacturing.
Funding for this position will come from IRIDISCENTE, a competitive research project funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.
The tasks to be developed will be mainly numerical, using state-of-the-art tools as crystal plasticity and homogenization based on Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) solvers or Finite Elements, but will require a good background in materials science, specifically on steels. The researcher will be enrolled in a PhD program and carry out his/her PhD dissertation while working at IMDEA.
Research on computational thermodynamics and kinetics of metallic alloys. CalPhaD-based calculations, predicting microstructural features, will be used to efficiently explore alloy compositions and process parameters. The generated data will be used to optimize alloys and processes and to train machine learning algorithms. This is part of a large-scale collaborative project focused on leveraging artificial intelligence for the sustainable design of efficient alloys and processes, and will thus require close teamwork with several academic and industrial partners.
