Excellence as our technological key

Short Bio of Dr. Aravind Dasari

Researcher

Dr. Aravind Dasari graduated with B. Tech in Chemical Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, India in 1999; and M.S. in Chemical Engineering (2003) from the University of Louisiana, USA. He then moved to Sydney, Australia where he obtained his PhD in 2007 from the Center for Advanced Materials Technology (CAMT), University of Sydney, under the guidance of Professor Yiu-Wing Mai. During his PhD, he was awarded a highly competitive International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) by the Australian Government and an International Postgraduate Award (IPA) by the University of Sydney. Upon completion of his PhD, he worked as a post-doctoral fellow at CAMT before assuming a Junior Research Scientist position at IMDEA-Materials towards the end of 2008.

Aravind has a general research interest on the processing-structure-property relationships of polymeric materials and more specifically, thermal stability/flame retardancy, tribology (at different length scales), and deformation/fracture mechanisms of polymer nanocomposites. He continues to work towards obtaining new generation of multi-functional and environmentally-friendly materials. From 2002, Dr Dasari has published 44 papers in peer-reviewed international journals, three book chapters, and many in conference proceedings. The quality of these contributions is also well reflected by h-index of 15 and more than 525 citations as per the Scopus database to-date. Recently, based on his research track record and standing in the field, he was included in the 10th Anniversary Edition (2008/2009) of ‘Who’s Who in Science and Engineering’.

Dr Dasari gave several talks in national/international conferences/workshops and was a Casual Lecturer at the University of Sydney from 2007-2008. He served on the student/early career researcher committee of Australian Research Council’s Australian Research Network for Advanced Materials (ARNAM) from early 2005-2007. Aravind was also a Visiting Scholar at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in April-May 2006 and acts as a referee for many international journals in the general area of composites science and technology.
